Residency Checklist Code Descriptions

This information is for current College of Graduate Studies applicants that are classified as pending residency for tuition purposes.

If you have received an email stating that additional documentation is required to continue processing your residency request, and you are now classified as “Residency Pending” please submit the required documents by the last day of late registration for the term to which you are applying. For specific deadline dates please visit: http://www.admissions.graduate.ucf.edu/residency/.  If we do not receive the required items your status will change to a Non-Florida resident for tuition purposes and you will be responsible for the charges associated with that classification.

In order to view the specific documentation we are requesting, you must check your Florida residency status and the documents needed in order to review your claim for residency through the MyUCF website:  https://my.ucf.edu

  •    Applicant FL Driver's License (copy)

    • Please provide the following:

      A copy of your Florida driver’s license dated at least 12 months prior to the first day of classes for the term you would be attending

      If needed: Copies of driving records may be requested from: http://www.floridadrivingrecord.com/ You may order a copy of your driving record and have the documentation emailed or mailed to you.

  •    Applicant FL Vehicle Registration (copy)

    • Please provide the following:

      A copy of your Florida Vehicle registration dated at least 12 months prior to the first day of classes for the term you would be attending

      If needed: Copies of previous vehicle registrations may be requested from your local tag agency. 

  •    Applicant FL Voter Registration (copy)

    • Please provide the following:

      A copy of your Florida voter registration dated at least 12 months prior to the first day of classes for the term you would be attending

       
      You may request your voter registration information from your county's Supervisor of Elections: http://registration.elections.myflorida.com/

  •    Claimant FL Driver's License (copy)

    • Please provide the following:

      A copy of your claimants Florida driver’s license dated at least 12 months prior to the first day of classes for the term you would be attending

      If needed: Copies of driving records may be requested from: http://www.floridadrivingrecord.com/ You may order a copy of your driving record and have the documentation emailed or mailed to you. 

  •    Claimant FL Vehicle Registration (copy)

    • Please provide the following:

      A copy of your claimants Florida Vehicle registration dated at least 12 months prior to the first day of classes for the term you would be attending

      If needed: Copies of previous vehicle registrations may be requested from your local tag agency. 

  •    Claimant FL Voter Registration (copy)

    • Please provide the following:

      A copy of your claimants Florida voter registration dated at least 12 months prior to the first day of classes for the term you would be attending 

      You may request your voter registration information from your county's Supervisor of Elections: http://registration.elections.myflorida.com/ 

  •    Applicant Employment History

    • Please provide the following:

      Employment History from the last 5 years

      Please reply to gradresidency@ucf.edu with your position title, place of employment, city & state, date started, date finished

      If a period of unemployment exists in an applicant's residency file, we must require additional documentation to prove physical presence. This can be done in the form of a lease agreement or utility bills in the applicant’s name that covers that period of time.
      If you own your home you may provide proof of purchase of a permanent home in addition to your most recent homestead documentation.
       

  •    Claimant Employment History

    • Please provide the following:

      Claimant Employment History from the last 5 years

      Please reply to gradresidency@ucf.edu with your position title, place of employment, city & state, date started, date finished

  •    Residency Classification Form

    • Please provide the following: 

      A completed and signed Residency Classification Form
      (please be sure to mark which classification type you are claiming through)

      *Note- At least two of your documentation must be dated at least 12 months prior to the first day of classes for the term you would be attending

      The Residency Classification Form can be obtained online at: http://www.admissions.graduate.ucf.edu/files/index.aspx 

      If needed: Copies of driving records may be requested from: http://www.floridadrivingrecord.com/
      You may order a copy of your driving record and have the documentation emailed or mailed to you.

      If needed: Copies of previous vehicle registrations may be requested from your local tag agency. You may request your voter registration information from your county's Supervisor of Elections: http://registration.elections.myflorida.com/

      You can obtain a copy of the Residency Classification Form my visiting: http://www.admissions.graduate.ucf.edu/files/ and filtering by “Residency” 

  •    Notarized Statement of Support

    • Note: This document is only requested of applicants who are applying for Spring admissions.

      Please provide the following:

      A notarized Statement of Support

      The Statement of Support can be obtained online at: http://www.admissions.graduate.ucf.edu/files/index.aspx  
      Note:  This document can be used in lieu of the previous year’s tax return, however it must be notarized. The original must be received in our office no later than the last day of late registration for the Spring Semester. 

  •    Parents Tax Return

    • Please provide the following:

      A notarized copy of your parent's 2012 tax return listing you as a dependent (for summer and fall applicants claiming B)

      We understand that you may not yet have access to this document, however please keep in mind that it is not due until the first week of classes for the semester to which you have applied. 

  •    Marriage Certificate

    • D. I am married to a person who has maintained legal residence in Florida for at least 12 months. I have now established legal residence and intend to make Florida my permanent home.

      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      A copy of your marriage certificate 

  •    Abandoned Florida Domicile

    • E. I was previously enrolled at a Florida state institution and classified as a Florida resident for tuition purposes. I abandoned my Florida domicile less than 12 months ago and am now re-establishing Florida legal residence.

      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      Proof that you paid in-state tuition while previously enrolled in a Florida state institution. 

  •    INS Documentation

    • For applicants claiming residency through one of the following exemptions:


      F. According to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, I am a permanent resident alien or other legal alien granted indefinite stay and have maintained a domicile in Florida for at least 12 months

      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      Copy of your permanent resident alien card

       

      G. According to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, I hold one of the following visas: category A, E, G, H-1, H-4, I, K, L, N, O-1, O-3, R, or NATO 1-7. I have maintained a domicile in Florida for at least 12 months.

      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      Copy of your visa

       

      H. According to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, I have applied for asylum or adjustment of status. I have maintained a domicile in Florida for at least 12 months.

      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      Copy of Employment Authorization Document OR I-94 arrival/departure record OR Order of Immigration Judge stating asylum status has been granted 

  •    Applicant DD2058 or LES

    • I. I am a member of the armed services of the United States and I am stationed in Florida on active military duty pursuant to military orders or whose home of record is Florida, or I am a member's spouse or dependent child.

      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      Copy of military orders or DD2058 showing home of record

  •    Applicant Military Orders

    • I. I am a member of the armed services of the United States and I am stationed in Florida on active military duty pursuant to military orders or whose home of record is Florida, or I am a member's spouse or dependent child.

      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      Copy of military orders or DD2058 showing home of record 

  •    Claimant DD2058 or LES

    • I. I am a member of the armed services of the United States and I am stationed in Florida on active military duty pursuant to military orders or whose home of record is Florida, or I am a member's spouse or dependent child.

      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      Copy of claimants military orders or DD2058 showing home of record

  •    Claimant Military Orders

    • I. I am a member of the armed services of the United States and I am stationed in Florida on active military duty pursuant to military orders or whose home of record is Florida, or I am a member's spouse or dependent child.

      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      Copy of claimants military orders or DD2058 showing home of record

  •    Employment Verification

    • For applicants claiming through one of the following exemptions:


      J. I am a full-time instructional or administrative employee employed by a Florida public school, community college or institution of higher education, or I am the employee's spouse or dependent child.

      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      Employment verification from your school or human resources department

      Please note that we may also be able to accept a copy of your most recent pay stub

      O. I am a full-time employee of a state agency or political subdivision of the state whose student fees are paid by the state agency or political subdivision for the purpose of job-related law enforcement or corrections training.

      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      Employment verification and proof that your tuition is being paid by your employer 

  •    Latin American/Caribbean School

    • K. I am part of the Latin American/Caribbean Scholarship program.

      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      A copy of your scholarship papers

  •    Valid Florida Pre-Paid Card

    • L. I am a qualified beneficiary under the terms of the Florida Pre-Paid Post-secondary Expense Program, S.240.551F.S.
       
      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      A copy of your most recent card

      Please note that your card must not expire prior to the semester to which you have applied 

  •    FSU Panama Canal Branch

    • M. I am living on the Isthmus of Panama and have completed 12 consecutive months of college work at the FSU Panama Canal Branch, or I am the student's spouse or dependent child.

      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      A copy of your paperwork proving that you have completed 12 consecutive months of college work at the FSU Panama Canal branch 

  •    Letter from State ACM Coordinator

    • N. I am a Southern Regional Education Board's Academic Common Market graduate student.

      If you are claiming residency through this exemption please provide the following:

      Certification letter from your State Coordinator

      Please note that this will not be available until you have been admitted to your graduate program  

  •    Physical Address-No PO Box

    • Please provide the following:

      Your physical address, P.O. Boxes cannot be used for Residency for tuition purposes 

  •    Address Out of State Employer

    • Section 2.2 of the Residency Guidelines - Physical Presence vs. Legal Residence states:

      A person may leave Florida to work or attend school temporarily in another state and still remain eligible for residency. Eligibility in these circumstances depends on the extent to which the absentee Florida resident maintains Florida legal ties and does not establish ties with another state.

      The burden is on the applicant to show that he/she always had the intent to return to Florida when not working. The applicant must have maintained his/her Florida driver's license, and Florida vehicle registration, and/or Florida voter's registration (if registered to vote).

      Please provide the following:

      A letter from your employer indicating your permanent address and whether or not you were employed on a temporary assignment.

      Proof of returning to Florida while not working. You must be able to verify that your belongings were left in Florida while working out of state.

      Any additional documentation to show the reason you were out of state was strictly to work temporarily and you never established domicile in another state, or country.

  •    Address Out of State School

    • Section 2.2 of the Residency Guidelines - Physical Presence vs. Legal Residence states:

      A person may leave Florida to work or attend school temporarily in another state and still remain eligible for residency. Eligibility in these circumstances depends on the extent to which the absentee Florida resident maintains Florida legal ties and does not establish ties with another state.

      The burden is on the applicant to show that he/she always had the intent to return to Florida when no longer enrolled in the out of state institution.  The applicant must have maintained his/her Florida driver's license, and Florida vehicle registration, and/or Florida voter's registration (if registered to vote).

      Please provide the following:

      A letter from your school indicating your permanent address and whether you paid out-of-state or in-state tuition.

      Proof of returning to Florida while not in school. If you worked in Florida while on breaks you can provide documentation from your employer.  You must verify that your belongings were left in Florida while attending school out of state.

      Any additional documentation to show the reason the student was out of state was strictly temporary and the student never established domicile in another state. 

  •    Paying at Florida State School

    • Please provide the following:

      Verification that you paid in-state tuition while attending a Florida state school. 


      Please note that this may be listed on your official transcript.  In order to use your transcripts for verification of Florida residency, you must notify the Graduate Studies Residency Department once your transcripts have been sent. 

  •    Address at Florida Private School

    • Please provide the following:

      Verification of your permanent address on file at your university/college, as your school does not differentiate between in state and out of state tuition. 

  •    Proof of Permanent Home

    • Please provide the following:

      A copy of a lease agreement dated at least 12 months prior to the first day of classes for the term you would be attending OR proof of homestead exemption in Florida. 

  •    Utility Bills

    • Please provide the following:

      12 consecutive months' worth of utility bills starting 12 months prior to the first day of classes for the term you would be attending.

      Please note that a cell phone bill is not considered a utility

  •    Florida Professional License

    • Please provide the following:

      A copy of your professional or occupational license.

  •    Notarized Letter

    • Please provide the following:

      A notarized letter from your parent's attesting to the fact that you have been living with them for the requested period of time. Please make sure the letters states the dates you have been living with them and the address.
